About this artwork
Redrawn from Kuniyoshi, 1853
In 1853, Utagawa Kuniyoshi carved this scene across three woodblock panels. It tells the legend of Tamatori, a young pearl diver who descended to the Dragon King's palace to recover a sacred jewel stolen by his court.
The Dragon King catches her leaving. In the panic of the chase, she cuts open her own chest to hide the jewel inside. She makes it back to shore. She dies from her wounds. The jewel is saved.
We drew every line of it again by hand. Over 80 hours of work to bring the original, faded after nearly two hundred years, back to high definition.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long will this mousepad last me?
3-5 years with daily use. Our mousepads are built with a stitched edge that prevents fraying, a high-density cloth top that preserves the artwork, and a non-slip rubber base that stays planted on any surface. No peeling, no curling, no cheap glue lifting off.
Is this really hand-drawn?
Yes. Every original design in our collection is drawn by hand by IKOGAI artists. We never use AI-generated art. The process takes weeks per piece, and we document it so you can see the work behind each design.
How do I clean it?
Hand wash with cold water and mild soap is the safest option. Machine wash on a cold cycle works too. Always air dry flat. Never tumble dry, never iron.
How long will shipping take, and are there any hidden costs?
We offer multiple international shipping options ranging from 4 to 14 days. No hidden costs at checkout.
Orders are usually dispatched the next working day.
